Historic Pine Avenue to Get Sign that Has Nothing to Do with Historic Pine Avenue

This week begins the construction for a San Diego-like street sign welcoming guests to Pine Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets.
With construction set to run through the 16th, crews will be “prepping the foundation for the signs and doing surveying. This won’t close the street, but will affect street parking in this vicinity,” according to the Downtown Long Beach Alliance.
Vaguely craftsmen with the sides but not really—nor does Pine have much to do with the craftsmen look. Vaguely art deco? Vaguely… Transformer-ish?
We’ll let the rendering speak for itself.
