Longbeachize Editor Brian Addison Named Mardi Gras King

By Damien Newton @damientypes · On February 7, 2017

Brian Addison has won his share of awards and accolades for his outstanding work as a journalist and editor of the Long Beach Post and Longbeachize. But his most recent honor is probably the most unexpected.

Last night, Addison was officially crowned as the new Mardi Gras King for the City of Long Beach for the Shoreline Village Mardi Gras. Addison will be one of the lead marchers in the Mardi Gras parade on February 25 that marches between the Aquarium and Shoreline Village. For more information on the parade and party, visit the official webpage.

As his first official duty as King, Addison presented a $500 check to the Justin Rudd’s Community Action Team on behalf of Shore Line Village.

The Mardi Gras website notes Addison’s role not just as an award winning journalist, but his many other contributions to the City of Long Beach.

Winner of the Los Angeles Press Club’s award for Journalist of the Year for his work at the Long Beach Post and Longbeachzine, Brian Addison’s name has become synonymous with impactful journalism in Long Beach. After serving as editor of Long Beach Post from 2011 – 2014, Brian served as Communications Manager for Downtown Long Beach Associates, and ultimately launched his own marketing company, Addison Communications, this past December. A vocal lover of all things Long Beach, and dedicated volunteer with organizations that address issues ranging from human rights, arts and culture, HIV/AIDS services, and economic development, Brian has received Recognition from Mayor Robert Garcia and Senator Ricardo Lara for his many contributions to his beloved community of Long Beach.

Addison is joined by Mardis Gras Queen (and City Councilmember) Jeannine Pearce  as 2016 royalty. Past honorees include LongBeachize Steering Committee member Michelle Molina and Mayor Robert Garcia.
